From humble beginnings in 1979, under the auspices of the Center for Human Development with training conducted by the staff of the Gestalt Institute of New England our organization has developed into a top tier Gestalt Institute.

The Institute’s Two Year Training Program for Professionals, Advanced Training Program, and variety of professional seminars provide mental health professionals the opportunity to develop their skills while earning Continuing Education Credit. We are approved CE providers by the American Psychological Association and National Board for Certified Counselors

Accepting Applications for 2019-2021 ETA Cohort

We are currently accepting applications for the 2019-2021 “ETA” Cohort.6 openings remaining.

How to Apply
The application process begins with attendance at one of our selection/information meetings. The meetings provide an opportunity to meet with members of the faculty, the faculty intern and other applicants. Program information is provided and applicants have an opportunity to both ask questions and to share their motivation and interest in the Training Program.

The Eta Cohort is scheduled to begin in September 2019 and complete in April 2021. The 2019-2021 Program marks the beginning of the 40th year of Gestalt training in Pittsburgh and it will be the twenty-third graduating class of Gestalt professionals.

Suicide Prevention Training for Mental Health Professionals

This Suicide Prevention seminar provides the opportunity to satisfy the CE requirement of the Matt Adler Act. Pennsylvania: HB 64 (adopted 7/8/16). Requires psychologists, social workers, marriage and family therapists, and professional counselors to receive at least one (1) hour of continuing education in suicide assessment, treatment, and management as a portion of the total continuing education required for license renewal. Titled the “Matt Adler Suicide Prevention Continuing Education Act.”

FINDING OUR THERAPEUTIC VOICES: COUNSELING THE BEREAVED UTILIZING GESTALT THERAPY PERSPECTIVES & TECHNIQUES

This seminar is designed to identify and explore the impact of grief following the death of client’s loved ones. It will provide methods of responding beyond basic level therapeutic skills and use of platitudes that are often relied upon to demonstrate support and understanding. It will teach methods to reduce the isolation of grief and to create open and honest conversations about death.
